Kamal Hossain, Benapole (Jessore) Correspondent: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is on the highest alert to prevent miscreants from destabilizing the peaceful environment of the country ahead of the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections. BGB is working tirelessly to control the electoral security, border security and law and order situation, said Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, Commander (CO) of Jessore 49 BGB Battalion.
He said these things at a press briefing with journalists of print and electronic media at Benapole Sadar Company Camp on Thursday afternoon.
At the press briefing, Lt. Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui said that the BGB has been regularly conducting activities to encourage and increase awareness among the local people to participate in the elections through the recovery of illegal weapons in the border areas, participation in public welfare activities, maintenance of internal law and order, and public awareness meetings.
He said that on the occasion of the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election, a total of 29 platoons of BGB will be deployed in 11 parliamentary constituencies of 16 upazilas of Gopalganj, Narail and Jessore districts in the area under the responsibility of the 49th BGB Battalion in Jessore. The BGB will serve as a mobile and striking force by setting up 11 temporary base camps in the election areas.
He said that in two upazilas (Sharsha-Chowgachha) along the border, the BGB will serve alone and in other upazilas jointly by coordinating with the army, police, RAB and Ansar.
Lt. Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui further said that after the announcement of the schedule, the reconnaissance activities for setting up temporary base camps in the responsible constituency areas were completed on December 11, 2025. The deployment of BGB in all the responsible constituencies will be completed between January 29 and February 1, 2026.
After the deployment, temporary check posts will be set up at 70 important places in the three districts and search activities will be conducted. In addition, regular patrols and polling station reconnaissance activities will be conducted to ensure the security of the polling stations.
He said that to maintain the law and order situation in the constituency areas, the 49th BGB Battalion of Jessore is participating in 'Operation Devil Hunt-2' in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
In addition, the remaining six battalions under the Regional Headquarters, Jessore, will perform election duties by setting up 79 temporary base camps in 51 parliamentary constituencies in 92 upazilas of 15 districts and deploying about 180 platoons of BGB, it was informed in the press briefing.
