A seminar was organized by the Social Services Office in Sadar Upazila of Chapainawabganj. The seminar was held on November 12 (Wednesday) at 11 am in the Upazila Parishad Conference Room on the significance of the Education Subsidy Program of the Department of Social Services for the Inclusion of Disabled Children in the Value Stream.
The seminar, conducted by Upazila Social Services Officer Kanchan Das and chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Maruf Afzal Rajan, was attended by Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office Mosa: Umme Kulsum as the chief guest, and Assistant Director of the District Social Services Office Dr. Abdullah Al Firoz as the special guest.
The speakers said that disability is not just a physical or mental limitation of a person. This is a social and structural challenge, which must be addressed through the combined efforts of individuals, society and the state. The participation of the disabled population in the socio-economic development of Bangladesh is absolutely essential. According to the data of the Department of Social Services' Disability Identification Survey on October 20/25, there are 36,71,748 disabled people in Bangladesh. On the other hand, according to the 'Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics, 2023' of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, 28.2 people are disabled in some way or the other for every 1,000 people in Bangladesh. To further accelerate the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, this large number of people must be involved in the mainstream of the state and society.
At this time, speakers gave guiding speeches on the significance of the Education Scholarship Program of the Department of Social Services in the mainstreaming of disabled children, and various professionals representing civil society exchanged views.
Also present at the time were Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station Police Inspector (OC Investigation) Sukamal Chandra Debnath, Narcotics Control Department Sub-Inspector Md. Mostafizur Rahman, officials from all departments of the upazila administration, people from different walks of life representing civil society, and guardians of the disabled.
