A press conference has been held in Chapainawabganj against two alleged fake journalists who wrongly published statements on various online platforms and demanded a ransom of 50,000 taka by blackmailing.
On Sunday (October 19), at 9 pm, a person named Md. Alam (49) held this press conference in the hall room of Model Press Club Chapainawabganj, where the victim's wife and other family members were present.
In a written statement, Md. Alam said,
On October 8, 2025, at 5 pm, while I was staying at my house, two unknown women came to my house and wanted to talk to me. While I was talking to the said unknown women, the alleged two fake journalists 1. Md. Zahid (28), father- deceased Lalchan Hafez, Sang-Ramakristapur, Majhpara, 2. Md. Soni (30), grandfather- Md. Khairul Islam, maternal grandfather's house address Sang-Shankarbati Saleh Member's house, next to the mosque, both police stations and district-Chapainawabganj came to my house and demanded a ransom of 50,000 thousand taka from me, otherwise they threatened to publish my and my wife's pictures on various social media including Facebook and various TV channels and electronic media to defame us. When I expressed my unwillingness to pay the money, the two fake journalists got angry and started abusing me in various kinds of unspeakable and obscene language. When I forbade them from abusing them, they threatened me with various kinds of intimidation and death. Later, they intimidated and threatened us, recorded our statement on mobile phones, edited it and published it on various online platforms against the police. In this, the image of the police has been tarnished by the spread of false information online involving the name of an SI of Sadar Police Station as well as the name of the officer-in-charge, so we want to inform you that the statement is completely false and fake. The said SI, OC or any police member is not involved in this. We strongly condemn and protest against the fake journalists Zahid and Soni editing my statement and publishing it on the online platform. At the same time, we request the law enforcement agencies to arrest the alleged two fake journalists Zahid and Soni and bring them to justice immediately.
He also said that after investigating, I have found out that these Zahid and Soni do not work for any legitimate television or print newspaper or online media. They are involved in blackmail, extortion, theft and robbery. A few days ago, Zahid and Badrul were caught with 50 carats of stolen mangoes in Parsha Upazila of Naogaon, our neighboring district, and Soni managed to escape. After being released on bail from jail in that case, they are continuing one criminal act after another using the label of journalists.
