This year, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested 501 suspects and seized smuggled goods worth about Tk 60 crore in operations conducted by 4 sectors and 15 battalions under the Rangpur region.
This information was given by the battalion commander, Lt. Col. Kazi Mostafizur Rahman, at a press conference organized by the North-West Region, Rangpur at the headquarters of the 53rd BGB Battalion in Chapainawabganj at 11 am on Monday (October 13).
He said at the press conference, "From January to October this year, Rangpur region conducted raids at various places and seized 71,340 bottles of phensidyl, 10.5 kg of heroin, 2 kg of cocaine, 12,127 bottles of alcohol, 2,090 kg of marijuana, 24,478 pieces of Yaba, 1,298,03 pieces of Viagra tablets and various goods. During this time, 501 people were arrested and cases were filed.
In addition, a pistol, 6 air guns, 7 kg of gunpowder, 99 cocktails and 40 petrol bombs were recovered.
The press conference also said that in addition to increasing strict surveillance and patrolling activities at the border, the BGB has continued to raise public awareness among the bordering public about illegal border crossings, counterfeit currency smuggling, drug smuggling and trafficking of women and children.
The press conference was attended by Vice-Captain Major Akram and Assistant Captain Md. Rafiqul Islam, as well as journalists from various electronic and print media.
