GIS data transfer and IMIS orientation were held at Chapainawabganj Municipality under the theme “Smart System, More Smart Services”.
On Wednesday (May 14) morning, the program jointly organized by SNV and Chapainawabganj Municipality was presided over by Chapainawabganj Municipality Administrator Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh at the Chapainawabganj Municipality Auditorium.
At the program, Municipality Town Planner Md. Imran Hossain presented details about the analysis of GIS data and future steps. He said, “Since September 2024, SNV and GPAD have been conducting a GIS survey on all the buildings of Chapainawabganj Municipality. This survey collected data on a total of 89,694 buildings (43,243 main buildings and 46,451 auxiliary buildings). In addition, GIS maps of roads, drains and water bodies, including 18,958 septic tanks, 18,493 pit latrines and 18,086 sockwells, were created.
This valuable information has now been handed over to Chapainawabganj Municipality, which will be helpful in waste management and urban planning.”
Municipal Executive Officer Md. Mamun-ur-Rashid said, “These statistics and data are a great asset for the municipality. It will not only be useful in waste management, but also in urban planning. We will integrate it with the holding tax software.”
Executive Engineer Md. Taufiqul Islam said, “With the help of SNV, we are now starting this service with more professionalism, where this GIS data will help us a lot in this work.”
Project Manager of SNV, Patricia Solorzano said, “In the current era of rapid urbanization, waste management and planning is not possible without GIS data. SNV will support Chapainawabganj Municipality through training and digital tools such as IMIS, which can be used with minimal IT skills.”
Rajshahi Cluster Coordinator Md. Rezaul Huda Milon conducted the action planning session.
Various decisions were taken during the orientation program. Notable among these decisions are the introduction of a standard service request form for fecal sludge management (FSM) services, commencement of IMIS training within the next month, and division of responsibilities for GIS and IMIS data management.
The administrator of Chapainawabganj Municipality expressed his gratitude to SNV and said, “This initiative is a strong step towards smart and information-based municipal management, which will make citizen services more efficient and improved. SNV has played a major role in successfully completing this complex task. Now it is our responsibility to use this data.”
The event was attended by officials and employees of the municipality’s engineering, sanitation, and IT departments, along with representatives from DPHE, LGED, Department of Environment (DOE), GPAD, and local community.
