Two brothers named Imran Hossain (8) and Ibrahim Ali (12) have gone missing after going to bathe in the Brahmaputra River in Kurigram.
The incident took place at around 3 pm on Saturday (May 10) in Char Jalangarkuthi village of Buraburi union in Ulipur upazila of the district.
The two missing brothers are the sons of Aminul Islam of Deldarganj area of the union.
Locals said that six years ago, children Imran and Ibrahim's father separated from their mother. After their mother Ismotara married elsewhere, they lived in the house of Nana Islam Ali, a resident of Char Jalangarkuthi.
At around 3 pm on Saturday, they went to bathe in the Brahmaputra River along with their classmate Rafi Islam (13). At that time, Rafi managed to reach the bank, but the two brothers Imran and Ibrahim drowned in the river and disappeared.
Lokman Hakim, a member of ward number 6 of the union, confirmed the matter.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ulipur Police Station Zillur Rahman said, "The matter is not known. An investigation is underway."
