The police have rescued six workers from the same village in Sylhet's Zakiganj upazila who had gone missing in search of work in Cox's Bazar from a hilly area called Rajarchara in Teknaf.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Gias Uddin confirmed that they were rescued from Teknaf around 9pm on Tuesday (April 22).
The rescued workers are Rashid Ahmed (20), son of the late Lukush Mia, Maruf Ahmed (18), son of Faruk Ahmed, Shahin Ahmed (21), son of Azir Uddin, Emad Uddin (22), son of the late Durai Mia, Khaled Hasan (19), son of Safar Uddin, and Abdul Jalil (55), son of the late Sarabdi.
The OC said that the location of two of the six was found in the Rajarchara hill area of Teknaf, Cox's Bazar by tracking the location of their mobile phones. Based on this information, a police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) of the police station, Nazmul Hasan, conducted an operation in the Rajarchara hills. At that time, the six abducted people were rescued unharmed from the deep area of the hill. However, no abductor was found.
According to family sources of the missing people, on the afternoon of April 15, 6 people, including 5 youths from Paschim Loharmahal village of Khalachhara union of Zakiganj upazila of Sylhet, left for Cox's Bazar for work. After reaching Cox's Bazar on April 16, they contacted their family members. But since then, their mobile phones have been found switched off.
In this regard, Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Gias Uddin said that some relatives of the missing people came to the police station on Tuesday and filed a written complaint. After receiving the complaint, the location of the abductees was confirmed by tracking the location of the mobile phones. As soon as the location was known, a police team went on a raid at night and rescued the six abducted people from inside the Rajachhara hills unharmed.
The OC said that they were brought to the police station for rescue. Interrogations are underway on how and who kidnapped them. Details can be given after their statements.
In this regard, Abdul Basit Dulal, cousin of the missing Emad Uddin and uncle of the missing Khaled Hasan, said that Emad Uddin and Khaled Ahmed and their companions left their home on April 15 and reached Cox's Bazar on April 16. At around 6 pm that day, Emad Uddin called home on his mobile phone and informed that they had all reached their workplace. After that, he did not contact home again. When he called from home, his mobile phone was found to be switched off.
