On the occasion of Bengali New Year 1432, the day was celebrated with a colorful event in Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram. On this special day of the New Year, a festive atmosphere was created in the premises of Ulipur Maharani Swarnamoyi School and College. Upazila administrators, local politicians, students, teachers, and employees all participated in the program dressed in traditional costumes.
The celebration began at 9 am with a New Year procession. The procession started from the college premises and circled the main roads of Ulipur Bazar and ended at Shaheed Minar Square. Participants depicted Bengali culture with banners, festoons, masks, and drums.
Then a pleasant cultural program was held in the Upazila Administration Auditorium. Students participated in songs, dances, poetry recitations, and drama performances. Various aspects of Bengali culture were highlighted in the program.
Also, a special competition was organized on the occasion of the New Year. The traditional stick game created great enthusiasm and joy among all those present. On the other hand, a bone breaking competition was organized for the girl students, which was enjoyable and exciting.
Everyone's spontaneous participation and love for cultural heritage were seen in every event. It began under the chairmanship of Upazila Executive Officer Nayan Kumar Saha and the importance of the day and the heritage of Bengali culture were discussed by Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Zillur Rahman,
Deputy Assistant Engineer Nityananda of the Public Health Department, former President and former Chairman of Upazila BNP Md. Haider Ali Miah and many leaders and activists were present.
At the end of the program, prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions, journalists from electronic media and print papers were present at the time.
